How to convert BMP to JPG

    Add your BMP images

Drag BMP files onto the box or click to browse — queue as many as you like. They stay on your device the whole time.

  2. Step 2

    JPG is already set

JPG is preset as the output. The quality slider sits at a balanced default for JPG; raise it for more detail, lower it for smaller files.

  3. Step 3

    Convert and download

Each finished row shows its new JPG size next to the original. Download the files one by one — no waiting rooms, no watermarks.

Should you convert BMP to JPG?

BMP files are raw uncompressed pixels, often megabytes for a single photo or screenshot. JPG applies real compression, so BMP → JPG regularly removes 90% or more of the file size with no difference you can see in a photo. It is the quickest way to make a BMP actually sendable.

In short: Choose BMP → JPG for the single biggest size win on this list — with images that have photographic content.

How BMP and JPG differ
Property BMP (source) JPG (output)
Compression None — raw, uncompressed pixels Lossy — quality was fixed when the file was saved
Transparency Rarely exposed by the format No — transparent areas are already flattened
Best for Programs that must read pixels without image codecs Photos and finished images that open everywhere
Worth knowing BMP stores pixels without compression, so files are enormous compared to every other format here. The detail JPG threw away at save time cannot be brought back — converting only decides what happens to what is left.

BMP to JPG — frequently asked questions

How do I convert BMP to JPG?

Drop your BMP files into the converter above (several at a time is fine), confirm the output is set to JPG, then hit convert and download the results. Everything happens locally in your browser while the files stay on your device.

Does converting BMP to JPG lose quality?

One quality-controlled lossy pass is added at the quality you choose — the default is set to a level where the difference is normally invisible. Transparent-looking areas keep their (already flattened) white or colored background.

Will the JPG file be smaller than my BMP file?

Yes — dramatically. BMP stores pixels uncompressed, so a JPEG copy of a photo is routinely over 90% smaller at a quality setting you will not notice.

What happens to transparency and EXIF metadata?

JPG has no alpha channel anyway, so nothing see-through is lost in practice. EXIF metadata such as camera model, timestamps and GPS coordinates is not carried over: the output is written as a brand-new file containing pixels only. That is a privacy bonus, not a bug.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. The converter decodes and re-encodes your images locally in your browser using Web Workers. Your files never leave your device, which is why the tool keeps working even on slow or offline connections.
