Should you convert SVG to PNG?
When every pixel of the vector must survive the trip to a raster format, PNG is the lossless answer: the SVG is redrawn exactly, transparency included, with no compression artifacts added. The PNG file is larger than the SVG source text — that is the nature of rasterizing — but it opens in every image viewer, editor and browser on earth.
In short: Choose SVG → PNG for a bit-faithful, universally openable raster copy.
| Property | SVG (source) | PNG (output) |
|---|---|---|
| Compression | Vector markup — redrawn losslessly at any size | Lossless — every pixel stored exactly |
| Transparency | Yes — full alpha channel | Yes — full alpha channel |
| Best for | Logos, icons and graphics that must stay sharp at any size | Screenshots, logos, graphics with text and hard edges |
| Worth knowing | SVGs with external images or webfonts render without them — use self-contained files. | Pixel-exact storage makes PNG files large for photographic content. |
SVG to PNG — frequently asked questions
How do I convert SVG to PNG?
Drop your SVG files into the converter above (several at a time is fine), confirm the output is set to PNG, then hit convert and download the results. Everything happens locally in your browser while the files stay on your device.
Does converting SVG to PNG lose quality?
No extra quality is lost. PNG is lossless: it stores the decoded pixels exactly, so the copy adds no new artifacts of its own. (SVGs with external images or webfonts render without them — use self-contained files.)
Will the PNG file be smaller than my SVG file?
The SVG source is text — often just a few kilobytes — but many services refuse vector files. The rasterized JPG is what you hand them; expect it to be larger than the text, smaller than a photograph at the same dimensions, and fully uploadable anywhere.
What happens to transparency and EXIF metadata?
Transparency survives the trip: the PNG copy keeps the same see-through areas. EXIF metadata such as camera model, timestamps and GPS coordinates is not carried over: the output is written as a brand-new file containing pixels only. That is a privacy bonus, not a bug.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. The converter decodes and re-encodes your images locally in your browser using Web Workers. Your files never leave your device, which is why the tool keeps working even on slow or offline connections.
